Universidade Zambeze, a partner of the GROW Project, is a public higher education institution located in the central region of Mozambique.
Headquartered in the city of Beira, the university operates across four provinces—Beira, Mocuba, Tete, Chimoio, and the town of Ulónguè. The institution prioritises advanced training, research, and extension services through technology transfer to the communities it serves. These strengths align closely with the goals and objectives of the GROW Project, positioning Universidade Zambeze at the intersection of developing entrepreneurial skills and promoting applied innovation in Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) Management.
Participation in the GROW Project provides an opportunity for Universidade Zambeze to help address environmental challenges by transforming construction and demolition waste into employment opportunities in Mozambique. With strong emphasis on social inclusion and gender equality, GROW focus on one of Africa’s most promising yet underexplored sectors.
Universidade Zambeze serves as an academic partner, strengthening collaboration among stakeholders in education, industry, and local communities while supporting GROW’s mission to promote the use of digital tools to support a smooth green and digital transition.
Key contributors from the institution include:
Feleciano Luís Januário – A specialist in business incubation and enterprise acceleration within circular innovation initiatives. He is the General Coordinator of the UniZambeze Business Incubator and brings extensive experience from more than ten projects. He contributes significantly to strengthening the entrepreneurial mindset promoted by the GROW Project.
Belchior José Manuel, PhD – A lecturer, researcher, and junior consultant specialising in geoprocessing, remote sensing, natural resource management, and regional and spatial economics, particularly in the design, evaluation, and monitoring of public policies.
Maria Imaculada Antonio Jossene – An Administrative and Financial Officer and accounting technician supporting the Zambeze University Business Incubator.
When asked how GROW will contribute to green job creation in Mozambique, Universidade Zambeze responded:
“GROW strengthens collaboration by actively engaging stakeholders and partners across Europe and Africa. From its inception, GROW has promoted reuse, recycling, and material valorisation to support circular micro-entrepreneurship and open pathways for start-ups, green job creation, and smart employment opportunities in Mozambique.”
Universidade Zambeze stated that by the end of the project, “it aims to make a significant impact on vocational schools, youth, and stakeholders across the construction sector by contributing to sustainable training approaches in construction waste management and leaving a practical blueprint for future capacity development.
